about

The chorus is a line I heard on National Geographic Channel. During a documentary about a lost city on the lost banks of a lost river, the voice-over said: '...all rivers leave tell tale signs in the contour lines of maps.' I wrote it down and composed this song. (Arthur van Westerop, singer / songwriter)

lyrics

Maps

We climb to thirty thousand feet
I might say something witty
But instead I say 'that's pretty high'
And she smiles uneasily

So we're off to a bumpy start
I'm fiddling with my safety card
Wondering how
While staring down over the steppe

All rivers leave tell tale signs
In the contour lines of maps

She studies archeologie
And I can feel the ice melt
As we unbuckle our seatbelts
And we talk finally

We start off at erosion
work our way up to emotions
Lose all notion of time
As we climb and we climb

And it doesn't feel
Like thirteen years have elapsed

All rivers leave tell tale signs
All rivers leave tell tale signs
All rivers leave tell tale signs
In the contour lines of maps

And though I see it doesn’t show
The Lord above knows
How I’m trying to prevent
A heap of little things I loved
From coming back to me again
We could be friends
But then she moves her head exactly like she did back then

All rivers leave tell tale signs
All rivers leave tell tale signs
All rivers leave tell tale signs
In the contour lines of maps
